I myself a resident of an erstwhile largest inland lake , now the most beautiful mountane valley of the world , am narrating the brief historic account of my land .
The erstwhile profundal and benthic zones of this desiccated lake now nurture the most beautiful meadows , pastures , scenic mountain lakes , vast swaths of green forests and above all , it also harbours one of the beautiful human race with an attractive culture !
Ancient name of my homeland was "kashmira" , meaning as ;-
Ka :- water
Shimeera :- desiccate
Another name of this mountain beautiful valley in ancient period was "Satisara" meaning "the lake of goddess sati"
Geologists support this claim of local folklore and explain that some million years ago the southern borders of this valley rose to prominent height in the form of mountain range of "pir panchal" , causing the formation of a mountain bound lake . They further claim that maximum depth was attained by this lake when its southern borders witnessed sudden prominent increase in height some 25,000 years ago . Up to this period this lake was isolated without an outlet .
As far as the desiccation process of this lake is concerned they explain it by mentioning the opening factor of "Baramullah Gorge"
The ancient Greeks called this valley as "kasperia" (ptolemy) , the great chinese traveller called it "kia-shi-milo" (Hueientsang) while as the prominent sanskrit scholar "Panini" , called it " kashmira" and mentioned its people by the name of "Kashmirikas".
Ancient human settlement of this water desiccated lake valley were mentioned by the name of " kashyap-pura " in the northern indian plains .
The location of kashmir is also very strategic as it provides a route of connectivity between the great indian plains towards Central-asia , China , Tibet .
The beautiful mountains , vast green meadows , vast masses of forests , crystal clear downstream water bodies , lush green plain crop fields , provide a perfect condition for the dwelling of an ascetic with a strong nature loving spirit . Thus this beautiful valley tells various secrets of the nature to the ascetics who dwell in it .
